Clwb Ifor Bach

An awesome events website for the most famous live music venue in Cardiff

Clwb Ifor Bach

Clwb Ifor Bach, sometimes known as The Welsh Club is one of Cardiff’s oldest and most well known independent live music venues.  Clwb needed a bilingual update to their site with a focus on promoting events in the venue and elsewhere.

The website needed to work well on a number of different devices. (This is called responsive design and is a hugely important consideration when designing a website). Clwb hosts a large number of live music and club nights, so we had to make it easy for staff to update. How? Well we asked the event staff what they were already doing and tried to create a new site that would add as little as possible to their workload.  It seems obvious, but it’s not just the end user that needs to be considered when designing a website. You also need to consider who will be updating information on the site, and how often this might need to be done. If a website is too time consuming or difficult to update then you can end up with with a site that sits around doing nothing with out of date events and information (which is not good for business).  So we designed Clwb’s website to allow staff to upload images they already had, for example A-format posters and Facebook event images, and to easily add new events and information.

We also built in the option for Clwb to sell event tickets both directly and through third-party sites, and customised the site to enable Clwb staff to obtain useful ‘behind the scenes’ information, like room capacity, event time, attendance etc. This allows the site to generate useful data to help with considerations like staffing rotas for given nights and the cleaning schedule for the following morning.

Clwb now has a visually engaging site which allows visitors to easily find and buy tickets for upcoming events, and is easy for staff to update with events, photos, employment opportunities and blog posts.  You can check out the latest happenings in the Welsh live music scene here
