Share Cardiff is a Cardiff Transition project. It’s a not-for-profit, volunteer-run, constituted community group, supported by the Big Lottery Awards for All.
Share Cardiff needed a simple web platform to be an online searchable directory for community-led sharing projects in the city. There are lots of amazing people and projects all over Cardiff but no single place to easily find out what’s going on. The Share Cardiff Project aims to collect, map and share all of these things, from Repair Cafès to litter picking groups to community gardens.
Initially the idea was to create an online map, however, due to the fact that we are not just listing events, but project and places all over Cardiff it was decided that a directory would be a better way of presenting the information (for the time being) and a better use of the budget.
We built the platform using the open-source CMS WordPress. WordPress is the most commonly used CMS on the web and it’s easy to find developers who support it.
Any organisation or individual can submit their offering via a form which goes into a moderation queue before being added to the site. Anyone looking to find a project or place can explore the listings through categories (eg Arts and Culture, Health & wellbeing, or search for a specific area of Cardiff.
We’re really pleased to be involved in this community-led sharing movement, helping the Share Cardiff team grow their network.
