August 2020 for Sinfonia Cymru

Brand refresh and website for Sinfonia Cymru

Showcasing the UK’s leading under-30s orchestra

Sinfonia Cymru is the UK’s leading under 30s Orchestra. A dynamic music organisation whose purpose is to develop and support young professional musicians in the early stages of their careers, and to provide exceptional performances for audiences across Wales and beyond.

Sinfonia Cymru asked us to build them a new website to help them showcase their performers, offer listings and tickets online, and enlist supporters.

A site fit for the UK’s leading under-30s orchestra

We built the site on WordPress, working with the team at Sinfonia to understand and define logical relationships between different types of content to find the best layout and navigational structure so that when they add new content, the site knows how to organise it and link it to other relevant content.

This makes it easy for the team to update the site, and the content stays fresh and relevant. Sinfonia is all about bringing a fresh and youthful approach to live music, and we had some great photo and video content to work with which really brought the site to life.

The site was designed to put Sinfonia Cymru’s live performances centre stage and to introduce the extraordinarily talented young musicians who bring bring it to life. Drawing on their existing brand guidelines the site feels light and energetic to match the energy of their performances.

Then along came Covid-19

In the final weeks of the project we started to learn about the global pandemic and what that might mean for a live arts organisation like Sinfonia Cymru and by extension, their website. Using a combination of the events system we’d already put in place and allowing them to be linked to posts from the blog (this is the ‘backstage’ area of the site) we came up with the idea of ‘digital performances’.

This allows Sinfonia Cymru to promote their online offerings via their events system with the added benefit that the content can continue to be available even after the ‘event’ has finished.

I love the new website! Looks fantastic, and so vibrant, brimming with personalities and stories you want to read. Creates such a sense of community, and also expresses that sense of passion and conviction digitally that we get from Sinfonia Cymru live.
